The Wilderness Boss Rework
The 2023 wilderness boss rework has arrived on Primal. Callisto, Venenatis and Vet’ion have been rebuilt with their modern mechanics, and each one is joined by a new singles counterpart in a lair of its own: Artio, Spindel and Calvar’ion.
Three new bosses
- Artio, Callisto’s counterpart, waits in Hunter’s End.
- Spindel, Venenatis’s counterpart, waits in the Web Chasm.
- Calvar’ion, Vet’ion’s counterpart, waits in the Skeletal Tomb.
- The new lairs are singles-plus: single-way combat, but you can still fight Calvar’ion’s hellhounds and Spindel’s spiderlings.
- In every singles-plus area, player-versus-player combat comes first: monsters won’t attack a player who is fighting another player.
- Every lair entrance has a Peek option. Once you have killed that boss 20 times, it tells you whether anyone is inside. There is no entry fee.
- All six bosses are on the teleporter under Bosses. Artio, Spindel and Calvar’ion drop you right at their cave entrances.
Reworked mechanics
- Callisto & Artio: melee up close. At range, either a ranged stomp or a magic blast that knocks you back unless you protect from magic. Protection prayers only partly reduce his hits. He howls at 66% and 33% health, and from then on every area attack scatters bear traps that root anyone who steps on one.
- Venenatis & Spindel: an eight-attack cycle of ranged and magic against everyone she can see, with a melee bite for anyone in reach. She hatches spiderlings that raise her max hits while they live. She throws webs that hurt you and drain your prayer and run energy while you stand in them (Aranea boots let you dodge them). After each set of attacks she runs to another part of the arena.
- Vet’ion & Calvar’ion: lightning strikes marked tiles around you; step off them. At half health he summons skeleton hellhounds and takes no damage while any are alive. His first death brings him back reborn at full health with greater hellhounds, and only the reborn form’s death counts as the kill.
Drops & collection log
- All six bosses have full drop tables. Callisto, Venenatis and Vet’ion keep their Primal drop rates. The lesser bosses drop the same uniques, at rarer rates.
- Several Vet’ion drops that could never roll now have proper rates.
- Each pair now shares one collection log page, just like OSRS: Callisto and Artio, Venenatis and Spindel and Vet’ion and Calvar’ion. Each page shows both kill counts. Everything you have already logged carries over.
Slayer
- Artio, Spindel and Calvar’ion count toward Callisto, Venenatis and Vet’ion boss tasks, from the Boss Master and from the Slayer masters.
- They also count for Bears, Spiders and Skeletons Slayer tasks.
- Fixed Slayer-master Vet’ion boss tasks not counting kills.
Everything else
- New health box: fighting any NPC now shows its OSRS-style hitpoints box at the top of the screen.
- Nex: a new Solo option on the Ancient barrier opens a private chamber, and only players inside the chamber count as part of the fight.
- Quest tab: your donated total now matches the amount your donator rank is based on, and the collection log total is calculated correctly.
- The guide book’s ring now shows up as the Ring of Primal.
- New map areas have been added to the world, with proper HD lighting.
- Fixed charging the Tonalztics of Ralos duplicating it, and a ralos charge turning a swapped-in weapon into a ralos.
- Fixed a graphics bug that could stop NPCs from updating for nearby players.
- The
::monkeyscommand has been removed. - Client: right-click hiscore lookups no longer show icon code in player names. The launcher updates itself; if you play from the client download, grab the new version from the Download page.
